The Garnet of Swarthmore College join You Can Play in working for diversity and inclusion in sports including for LGBT athletes, staff and fans.
Phineas the Phoenix is the school’s mascot, respresenting a constant renewal of the human spirit. Founded in 1864 by a Committee of Quakers, the private, liberal arts school outside of Philadelphia has made a long commitment to social responsibility. Athetes wearing Swarthmore’s garnet and gray now commit to accepting all athletes and fans regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The school’s president, athletic director staff and athletes all appear in the video, saying, “At Swarthmore, we promote an environment that emphasizes fair play, integrity, education, sportsmanship and respect for everyone.”
You Can Play welcomes Swarthmore to the team.
