Openly gay 19-year-old athlete Scott Heggart tells his story for You Can Play. Scott documented coming out, posting a YouTube segment every day for a year. Growing up in Ottawa, Scott played hockey, softball, football and basketball and as a tenth-grader began a video project that included his thoughts about being gay, being gay in sports and interviews with family members. He came out to supportive teammates the following year and now, as a first year communications student at the University of Ottawa, Scott is setting a standard for young advocates, both gay and straight. He’s the first in a series of articles and videos for You Can Play by men and women making a difference for full respect in sports.
