They’re headed for Canada’s national ringette championship and whether they win or not, the women of Alberta’s Zone 5 become the first in their sport to join You Can Play in working for equality for all in sports – including LGBT athletes, coaches and fans.
It’s a game much like hockey – played on an ice surface – but with a straight stick and a ring instead of a puck. The women of Zone 5 have stepped up for inclusion in their sport. According to team rep Sam Siffledean, “These girls are true believers in this message and prove it everyday in their actions. The coaches go way beyond X and O and do teach respect to the girls.”
You Can Play is honored to welcome the first in their sport to the You Can Play team.
