The Badgers and Blue Devils may be competing for a national championship, but off the court the schools are part of another team.
Duke and Wisconsin can add one more first to a long list of accomplishments in their storied sports histories. The NCAA D1 men’s basketball championship marks the first time two schools have committed to inclusion for everyone – including LGBT athletes, coaches and fans – by joining the You Can Play team.
Duke University was one of the first schools on board with You Can Play in 2012, committing to diversity and inclusion, while subtly committing to recruiting great players other schools might miss based on sexual orientation. Last year, the University of Wisconsin showcased its commitment by showing its You Can Play video in front of 80,000 fans each week at Camp Randall Stadium.
You Can Play is grateful to both schools for their work in support of LGBT athletes. Here’s to having Blue Devils and Badgers on the same team.
