Every You Can Play video requires hours of work and a great team, but it’s all done for the same reason: promoting equality and inclusion in sports, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion or other identifying factors.
This video is a look at some of those who’ve helped in creating the You Can Play Project over the past year, from the gay hockey players of the Boston Beanpot Classic to early NHL supporters like Tommy Wingels and Steven Stamkos.
Along with Patrick Burke, You Can Play’s three co-founder’s include Denver-based Brian Kitts, a former marketing director for the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Mammoth, and Glenn Witman, the founder of elite gay sports program GForce Sports. While Patrick mans the East Coast, Brian and Glenn handle operations from Denver. Partners in those operations include the crew at Zerosun Pictures. Zerosun has been responsible for editing and filming many of the You Can Play spots and it’s their behind-the-scenes work that has captured visits to Denver by Cal Clutterbuck, Brooks Orpik and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. They’ve also recorded the work of many of Colorado’s sports teams.
This is what happens before the videos hit our website, with Brian and Glenn talking about why homophobia hurts and why the sports we love are important in changing our world.
Sincere thanks to Zerosun Pictures for the steady cameras, and solid advice.
