American Hockey League

The American Hockey League teamed up with the You Can Play Project to promote equality in sports. "Great teammates should be judged by their heart, talent, and skill: not by the color of their skin, religion, or where they're from. And not because they are straight or gay."

"Countless players and coaches have said in their messages advocating for their teammates and fans regardless of their sexual orientation."

The AHL is the primary developmental league for the National Hockey Association. Every team in the league has an affiliation with an NHL team. There are 30 total squads with 27 located in the United States, and the other three in Canada. The annual playoff champion is awarded the Calder Cup named for Frank Calder, the first president of the NHL
