Work with the You Can Play Project

Director of Programs

You Can Play Project, a 501(c)(3) organization focused on ending LGBTQ discrimination in sport, seeks to hire a full time (30-40 hours per week) consultant to a one-year renewable contract to fulfill duties as Director of Programs. 

Reports To

The Director of Programs will report to the Executive Director, with additional supervision from the Executive Board of Directors.

Job Overview

The Director of Programs will be focused on overall program development and fidelity across all You Can Play focus areas, including but not limited to pro, Olympic, amateur, college, and youth sports; as well as other corporate entities and other non-profit partners. The Director of Programs will work closely with other consultants, the Executive Board of Directors, and volunteer ambassadors to ensure program growth and assist with related fundraising.

The Director of Programs will work remotely but will be required to travel (up to 25%), with frequent travel between the United States and Canada. 

Responsibilities and Duties.

  • Continuing You Can Play’s work on behalf of LGBTQ athletes and straight allies within sports
  • Expansion and development of You Can Play staff and volunteers involved in program delivery 
  • Continually revise and develop You Can Play program curricula and collateral
  • As needed, facilitate / present YCP programs and/or events
  • Representing You Can Play through public speaking and other representation at high profile events
  • Fundraising for You Can Play
  • Management on a program-by-program basis of operations including budget development, media preparation and program execution
  • Oversight of You Can Play regional boards
  • Support You Can Play social media efforts in conjunction with the Executive Director and other consultants
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and other You Can Play representatives, development of partnerships with sports leagues, athletes, media personalities, governing bodies, teams, business entities, and other groups or individuals that can assist You Can Play in fulfilling its mission
  • Assess You Can Play’s current organizational structure and make suggestions and improvements based on current strengths and weaknesses. 
  • Identifying opportunities to expand You Can Play outreach and brand awareness in the sports, media, and corporate realms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required.

The ideal candidate will have a history in sport and/or LGBTQ advocacy work, with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in sports, advocacy or non-profit organizations including a history of supervising a diverse team of employees and/or volunteers.

Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills are required.  

Compensation
Consultants will be provided a one-year contract with the possibility for renewal. Compensation for services will be provided monthly, calculated on an hourly basis, based on the hourly equivalent of40 hours per week at $60,000 – $75,000 USD or $55,000 - $75,000 CAD / year commensurate with experience.

Director of Partnership and Development

Reports To

The Director of Partnerships and Development will report to the Executive Director, with additional supervision from the Executive Board of Directors.

Job Overview

The Director of Partnerships and Development will be focused on overall program growth and leadership, especially focused on developing relationships with key partners and funders. This includes all You Can Play focus areas, including but not limited to pro, Olympic, amateur, college, and youth sports; as well as other corporate entities and other non-profit partners. The Director of Partnerships and Development will work closely with other consultants, the Executive Board of Directors, and volunteer ambassadors to help ensure the organization’s financial stability through new partner development and fundraising.

The Director of Partnerships and Development will work remote but will be required to travel (up to 25%), with frequent travel between the United States and Canada. 

Responsibilities and Duties.

  • Continuing You Can Play’s work on behalf of LGBTQ athletes and straight allies within sports
  • Assist with recruiting new program partners at all levels, including but not limited to corporate and community partners, as well as professional, Olympic, collegiate, amateur, youth, and school based, sport focused entities (leagues, teams, governing bodies, etc.).
  • Assist with partner stewardship
  • Assist with revising and developing You Can Play program curricula and collateral to meet the needs of partners (program customization)
  • Fundraising for You Can Play
  • Fundraising – focus on grant research, applications, reporting, and bookkeeping
  • As needed, facilitate / present You Can Play programs and/or events
  • Representing You Can Play through public speaking and other representation at high profile events
  • Management on a program-by-program basis of operations including budget development, media preparation and program execution
  • Support You Can Play social media efforts in conjunction with the Executive Director and other consultants
  • Assess You Can Play’s current organizational structure and make suggestions and improvements based on current strengths and weaknesses.

- Casual days, a-thons, dinners, galas, socials, bake sales, garage/yard sales, book sales, car washes, coin collection, school fun fairs, fashion shows, book club, auctions, raffles, lunch money, concerts, sporting events

- Get your school or community group involved in an event that encourages everyone to PLAY!

- In lieu of gifts for special occasions (birthdays, weddings, bat/bar mitzvahs, etc.) ask for donations to You Can Play from family and friends

 

Create You Can Play Signs and Patches
